Do you want to grow your own food but don’t have space? The Sustainable Agriculture Project (SAP) here at GVSU wants to help you!
We have 24 community garden plots at the Luce St. Farm that are open to both students and faculty. Plots are run autonomously by plot renters for the 2017 growing season for only $30.00. The SAP will provide both the soil and compost for each community garden plot. Plot renters are welcome to use their own seeds; however, if the SAP has extra plants and seeds, they are welcome to use those as well. The SAP will occasionally run sprinklers, but plot renters are ultimately responsible for watering and managing their own plots. Plot renters are welcome to use the SAP’s tools as long as they are properly put back in storage afterward. Plot renters will be required to have a brief food and safety lesson in order to use the SAP’s harvesting tools. Plastic produce bags will be available to use within the Luce St. Farm garage for harvested produce.
Due to the limited number of plots, we will be issuing them at a first come first serve rolling basis. If you are interested in a community garden plot please sign up asap and no later than May 10, 2017.
Plot renters will be asked to give the SAP a notice if they go on vacation or know they will be out of town for an extended period of time. This will allow the SAP to make arrangements to help upkeep their plot. Any plot left unattended to without any notice for longer than 3 weeks will be subjected to being passed on.
