Energy Competition
Each year student housing units compete to see who can reduce energy
consumption the most. This competition is part of a broader campaign to encourage
behavior change in students. This year the competition runs through the month of
October, the residence halls with the most energy saved will be announced at the
end of October/early November!

Unplug with Campus Rec
With something for everyone, Campus Rec offers multiple opportunities to get
involved, be active, and live healthy. This week long event seeks participants to use
5 "unplugged" hours each day to enjoy the world and people around you while
disconnected from technology! Join this fun movement to stay active and live healthy
together.

SAP Volunteer Hours

When: 1 p.m.- 4 p.m.


Interested in farming practices, agriculture, food, or sustainability? Come get your
hands dirty with us at the Sustainable Agriculture Project during open volunteer
hours.

Tuesday, October 2

Sustainability Information Table
Where: Kirkhof Lobby Area
When: 12 p.m.- 2 p.m.


The Office of Sustainability Practices and the Bike Shop will hold an
information table session at the Lobby area of Kirkhof in Allendale in
celebration of Sustainability Week 2018! Stop by to learn about sustainability
initiatives on campus, get involved, and support Sustainability Week!

Demonstration Garden Dedication Ceremony
Where: Near Au Sable Hall
When: 3 p.m.

In honor of the Sustainable Agriculture Project’s 10-year anniversary, the
Demonstration Garden will be dedicated to the students, faculty, and staff of the
university as a symbol of our commitment to sustainability. Please join us for this
ceremony as we celebrate this feat!

Wednesday, October 3

Farmer’s Market
Where: Lot G
When: 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m.


Purchase local! Let’s support our local farmers and enjoy fresh and local produce
grown.

Free Bike Tune-ups
Where: Lot G
When: 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

The good folks from the bike shop will be providing free bike tune-ups at farmer’s
market. Don’t forget to bring your bicycles to access free bike service!
 

Sustainability around the World Poster Session
Where: Henry Hall Atrium
When: 11 a.m.-12 p.m.

Join the Geography and Sustainable Planning 101 students as they present
sustainable solutions in energy sector, agriculture, water management, urban
planning, transportation, and building design featuring place-based case studies
from around the World.

Thursday, October 4

Before the Flood Film Screening
Where: Lake Michigan Hall Rm 275
When: 5:30 p.m.- 7:30 p.m.

The Office of Sustainability presents a film screen event of Before the Flood.
BEFORE THE FLOOD profiles Leonardo DiCaprio as he meets with scientists,
activists and world leaders to discuss the dangers of climate change and possible
solutions. Join us in watching BEFORE THE FLOOD and discussion following the
film.

Walk with the Deans
Where: Carillon Clock Tower
When: 10 a.m.

Join the health and wellness team as we embark on a 2 mile campus walk with the
Deans.

Wellness Summit
Where: Kirkhof Center
When: 10 a.m. -1 p.m.

Trying to find some balance in your life? GVSU’s Wellness Summit has much in
store for all who participate. Learn about campus wellness programs and resources
available for students, faculty and staff.

Farm Olympics and Crafting
Where: 4539 Luce. St., Jenison, MI
When: 2 p.m. -4 p.m.

Interested in some farm activity to climax the week? Come join the farm crew as we
engage in series of games at the Sustainable Agricultural Project.

Saturday, October 6

Global Grove Tree planting
Where: 4539 Luce St., Jenison
When: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The Padnos International Center in collaboration with the SAP is hosting a tree
planting event to honor GVSU’s international partners. Come, let’s celebrate our
pride in diversity.

Zero Waste Football Game
Where: Lubber’s Stadium
When: 7 p.m.
Come support the Zero Waste initiative at GVSU’s home football game. Interested in
