This is the estimated budget for this study abroad program. It serves as an estimated cost of attendance for your semester or year abroad. Students often pay for study abroad through a combination of financial aid, personal funds, scholarships, grants, and alternative loans. The total amount listed as the Total Program Cost is the maximum amount of financial aid that can be awarded to you by GVSU. This total program cost does not reflect the amount of aid you will qualify for, rather, it serves as the cap on what can be awarded.

IS 380 Course Fee

Paid to GVSU. The course fee for IS 380 is $28 per credit hour. Participants on this program will register for 12 credits of IS 380.

Chubb Insurance

The Chubb insurance plan is required for all study abroad students. The cost is $1.46 per day. This is a general estimate is based on 120 days. The actual number of days of this program may vary.

Passport fee is $200. Campus France fee is $205. Visa fee is currently approximately 99 Euros (approx. $99 US) + $35 for a returned envelope. Travel expenses to secure visa in Chicago $100. OFII: 55 Euro

Health insurance

ESSCA requires students to pay the French Social Security fee of 215-240 Euro prior to your arrival in Angers. This coverage will cover 70% of costs of medical and hospital expenses. NOTE: Regulations on this requirement may be change. Check with ESSCA for updated information.

Room & Utilities

$2,275 - $4,000 (includes estimates for deposit, electricity and heat)

Rent ranges from 350-600 Euro per month depending on which option you choose. Cost is based on 4.5 months. ESSCA has detailed information available in the Practical Guide available on their website. NOTE: Less expensive housing is often the first to fill. Students are strongly encouraged to apply for housing quickly after being accepted into the program.

Meals

On-site personal expenses. Costs for meals will largely depend on a person's spending habits. Students who prepare meals at home rather than eating out regularly may dramatically reduce the cost for meals. This estimate is based on $100-115 per week for 16-20 weeks.

Personal Expenses

$1,600- $2,000 

On-site personal expenses associated with local transportation, cell phone purchase, laundry and other basic necessities at an estimate of 100/week. A 4-month bus pass is estimated at $160.

This estimate is based on the currency rate of exchange for June 1, 2023 which is a rate of 1 US = 1.10 Euro. The exchange rate does fluctuate which may result in changes to the estimates above.

*Based on in-state, upper-division tuition rates for 12-15 credits. If you complete more than 15 GVSU credits during your semester abroad, tuition charges for the additional credit above 15 will be billed to your GVSU student account after you return and PIC completes the transfer of credit.

**The cost of any study abroad program depends to a large extent on the participant’s personal spending habits and lifestyle. Personal travel, entertainment, gifts, souvenirs, and other types of personal spending are costs not reflected in the above estimates.
