The Wellness Information Team (WIT) is a group of GVSU students ready to connect with you about wellness! We can chat about nutrition, sexual health, and general wellness (like stress!)

Request a Presentation
Use the RecWell Service Request Form to request a presentation. Be sure to check "Wellness Presentation" on the form. In the "Event description" let us know what type of presentation you are interested in. You can choose from the presentations below, or you can request a customized presentation. In-person presentations may be possible in certain circumstances.

Annie Seeber

Major: Radiation Therapy
Year: Junior
Why did you want to become a Peer Educator? To help create a safe, fun, and inclusive environment to talk about sex and health with fellow students!
Campus Involvement: Volunteer club Lakers for Change and working at the FitWell desk in the rec center!
Top Tip for Being Well: My top tip for being well is giving yourself mini pep talks. Sometimes you just need to hype yourself up! You can do it!!

Beck Lukins
Pronouns: They/them/theirs
Major: Ethical Communications & Advocacy
Year: Sophomore
Why did you want to become a Peer Educator? I wanted to become a peer educator because it’s been my job since freshman year of high school and I can’t imagine doing anything else. I am very passionate about researching, learning, and teaching sex ed. I hope to help improve Grand Valley’s levels of sexual literacy and wellness and provide safer sex materials and resources for students on campus.
Campus Involvement: I am also a Violence Prevention Peer Educator through the Center Women & Gender Equity here on campus! Additionally, I attend the Queer Alliance group, Niemeyer Honors college, LGBTQ+ Inclusive Fitness Training (LIFT), and am a member of the campus chapter of the Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA).
Top Tip for Being Well: Be self-reflective. I find that by tuning into your thoughts, feelings, dreams, and desires, one can achieve a greater sense of identity and understanding within themselves.

Camryn Lane

Why did you want to become a Peer Educator? To help spread awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding sex and sexual health on campus!

Top Tip for Being Well: Focus on yourself and listen to your body!

Why did you want to become a Peer Educator? I really enjoy to learn about health and nutrition and I want to be able to share that knowledge so others can also benefit from it.

Top Tip for Being Well: Small changes can make a big difference! You don't have to be 'perfect' 100% of the time, just do your best!

Emilio Espinosa

Major: Marketing
Year: Junior
Why did you want to become a Peer Educator? I wanted to be a Peer Educator to help students with their health and nutrition goals. On top of that, share my love and knowledge for fitness and a healthy lifestyle!
Campus Involvement: Other than the WIT Program, I am involved in GVSU Men’s Club Soccer, Seidman’s IPO Analyst Program, Latino Student Union, when I can, GVSU’s Strength Club and most recently, I became a Laker Community Ambassador.
Top Tip for Being Well: Let you main focus be on you! When you finally figure out your peace and happiness or get a good rhythm, help others out. “Each one teach one” - Denzel Washington

Why did you want to become a Peer Educator? I love to meet new people and share my love for nutrition!

Top Tip for Being Well: Don't buy into diets and don't be afraid of carbs!

Josie Kasmauskis

Major: Applied Food and Nutrition
Year: Freshman
Why did you want to become a Peer Educator? I love to learn and share nutrition information, and to show people that they can have a healthy lifestyle no matter what their schedule or current knowledge.
Campus Involvement: I am currently in the Frederik Meijer Honors College, Swim Club, Spanish Club, Farm Club and Pre-Dietetics Club.
Top Tip for Being Well: Don't feel guilty about doing something unhealthy, just feel proud of whatever healthy actions you are doing. You can always keep improving, but it should be a fun process!

Sofia Hessler

Major: Public and Nonprofit Administration
Year: Senior
Why did you want to become a Peer Educator? I struggled (and sometimes still struggle) with burn-out and a need for perfectionism for the first few years of college. As a result, I did not prioritize certain areas of wellness and I could feel it both mentally and physically. I hope to share my experiences with other students and spread positivity while promoting self-care.
Campus Involvement: Frederik Meijer Honors College and Universities Allied for Essential Medicines (UAEM)
Top Tip for Being Well: Make self-care (spending time with friends, cooking, meditating and spending time outside) a priority in your life, just as much as you prioritize school or work.

Stella Sterling

Why did you want to become a Peer Educator? I made a lot of lifestyle changes after struggling through my first year, so loved the idea of this program! It's something I wish had been around for me and I hope I can help others in their own personal wellness journeys.
Campus Involvement: I'm a Student Ambassador - did I give you a campus tour? I also am part of the Cooking Club and Women in Computing.
Top Tip for Being Well: Find a healthy sleep schedule. Without good sleep it's SO hard to function. I never knew how much of my life was affected by poor sleep until I made the change!

Jessica Epplett - MPH Practicum Student

Major: Master of Public Health - Health Promotion
Year: Second Year Grad Student
Why did you want to do your practicum with RecWell? I want to be able to empower students to make informed choices about their health and feel confident about their health!
Top Tip for Being Well: Always remember that it's ok to take a break! Everything will still be there when you get back.

Katie Liebaert - MPH Practicum Student

Major: Master of Public Health - Epidemiology
Year: Second Year Grad Student
Why did you want to do your practicum with RecWell? I wanted to do my practicum with RecWell to help students feel their best at Grand Valley and support their wellness by connecting them with the resources they need.
Campus Involvement: I am currently involved with Public Health Society and was formerly a part of the Red Cross Club and Health Communication Coalition as an undergrad at GVSU.
Top Tip for Being Well: Take time to relax and have FUN! I think it's so important to do things that make you happy and take breaks from being productive all the time. Rest is good!

Ryleigh Emelander - Health Promotions Assistant

Major: Master of Public Health - Health Promotion
Year: Grad Student
Why did you want to become a Student Assistant with RecWell? I love being able to help other people improve their lives, and Recreation and Wellness provides great opportunities for people to improve their health and well-being :)
Top Tip for Being Well: Prioritize rest! Whether it's spending time in nature, taking a nap, creating art, going for a walk, etc., intentionally taking time to rest is so important for your well-being.
