Outcome P Application of geographic knowledge in public policy-making and discourse on social and environmental issues.

Students will utilize geographic knowledge and spatial analytic skills to make the world a better place through engagement in public policy-making/discourse on social and environmental issues.
Objective 8 Students will demonstrate an understanding of the impact of natural conditions on human activities, on the one hand, and the different ways of creating environments according to differing cultural values, religious beliefs, technical, economic and political systems, on the other.
Objective 9 Students will demonstrate ability to work interculturally with community partners and at the local, regional, national or international level.

Outcome R Urban planning competency (urban and regional planning emphasis and sustainable urban and regional certificate-specific outcome)

Students will demonstrate mastery of key principles of design and policy in the field of urban planning including the historical roots of those principles and strategies for their implementation.
Objective 16 Students will demonstrate knowledge of the historical evolution of urban planning including key thinkers and planning paradigms.
Objective 17 : Students will demonstrate mastery of best practices in urban design.
Objective 18 Students will demonstrate knowledge of policy options for implementing the design “best practices” to meet environmental, economic and social goals of sustainable planning.

All students were assessed for measure R.18.2 across the sequence of three courses: GPY101, GPY312 and GPY410 in Fall 2017 . Data in GPY312 were collected through questions in final exam.

All students in GPY410 were assessed in Fall 2017. Final project on application of sustainable planning practices in the local context was used to collect the assessment data.
