The Allendale Academic & Professional Council meets on the FIRST MONDAY of each month at 9:00 p.m. in Kirkhof Center. (2/4, 3/11 - 2266 KC).

The Downtown Academic & Professional Council meets on the FIRST Tuesday of each month at 4 :00 p.m. in the DEV 302E (2/5, 3/12).

Council meetings are mandatory for organizations to remain eligible for funding during academic year (send at least one representative to either the Allendale or Downtown meeting).

The Academic & Professional Funding Board (serving all A&P groups) meets EVERY Tuesday as needed at 4:00 p.m. in 2259 KC (unless otherwise noted). Funding Board meetings are open to the public but are only required for groups scheduled to present a request.

What is the Academic & Professional Council?

Each registered student organization (RSO) is assigned to a Student Organization Council based on its Student Organization Review Board (SORB) classification. All RSOs in the Academic & Professional category belong to the Academic & Professional Council. Groups based in Allendale will meet monthly on the Allendale campus. Groups based at the Pew Campus or CHS will meet monthly at the Pew Campus (Downtown Grand Rapids). The Councils will meet monthly to share information and discuss co-programming opportunities. The Councils will also appoint a Funding Board to grant funds to member organizations for campus activities on a program-by-program basis.

The Academic & Professional Council has been allocated $20,000 for the 2014-2015 fiscal year by the Student Senate. Active members of the Council (sending a representative to each meeting) are eligible to request funds. The process begins by completing a Funding Request Form through OrgSync (officers can access the form by clicking on the treasury button on OrgSync).

It is understandable that some Presidents may not be able to attend scheduled Council meetings, however a student representative needs to be in attendance. An organization may send multiple representatives, however a minimum of one student from each organization must attend. Each member organization will receive one vote on Council business. Please note Council and Funding Board meetings replace the Campus Life Board meetings of past years and attendance is essential for organizations to receive funding from Student Senate.

Advisors may attend, however, a student must attend to represent the organization.

Agenda Items include (but are not limited to):

  • Attendance and Registration Status of Member Organizations
  • Purpose of the Council and Future Meeting Schedule
  • Funding Process and Current Allocations for 2009-2010
  • Application process for those interested in serving on the Academic & Professional Finance Board
  • Updates and Opportunities

Attendance will be taken at each Council meeting (this can affect funding later.) All organizations listed as "Academic & Professional" in OrgSync are expected to send a representative.

Please direct questions or concerns to Valerie Guzman, Council Advisor at or 331-2345.
