Grand Valley to Host Alternative Breaks Citizenship School Conference

This year, for the first time, Grand Valley will be co-hosting an Alternative Breaks Citizenship School Conference with Break Away. The conference will be titled “Collaborative Approaches to Greening a Growing City” and will take place June 23-28 downtown Grand Rapids.

Alternative Breaks is an organization that helps students spend their spring breaks helping the community and those in need all over the US. Grand Valley has its own branch of Alternative Breaks and the organization is filled with Lakers dedicated to community service and making the world a better place.

The Alternative Breaks Citizenship School Conference will explore urban greening and discuss the preservation of parks, creating accessible community spaces, and encouraging citizen involvement in sustainable development. There will be programs available specifically for students and for staff. Approximately 100 students and 20 staff are expected to attend from all over the country.
