Student Employee Sick Leave

To provide extra care to student employees who are vaccinated, in the process of becoming vaccinated, or have a GVSU approved exemption, GVSU is reinstating the GVSU Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL) to help ensure student employees are able to observe quarantine and isolation guidelines related to COVID-19 for the Fall 2021 and Winter 2022 semesters. This additional benefit will expire on June 30, 2022. There will be an allotment of 50 hours of paid leave in effect on September 7, 2021 for eligible student employees regardless if any EPSL time was taken previously. The 50 hours will reset January 1, 2022 and end June 30, 2022.

EPSL is intended to protect student wages while they seek healthcare services and/or isolate while recovering from their illness. If you are sick and/or experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please complete your daily self assessment, communicate with your supervisor and stay home for everyone’s safety.

If you have any questions, please contact the Student Employment Office at (616) 331-3238 or [email protected]. More information can also be found here

Student employees will need to submit their EPSL request through the online form. Once reviewed, and if approved, HR/Payroll will enter in applicable hours to UltraTime and provide a confirmation of processing to the student employee and their supervisor. Please note documentation of vaccination, being in the process of vaccination, or an approved exemption must be uploaded to the self-assessment before hours can be processed. If you have not already done so, please complete this step when submitting your request to help with processing requests in a timely manner.
