9:00 to 10:30 Sectional Rehearsals 

  • First violins with Megan Crawford [ON STAGE]
  • Second violins with Eric Tanner  [ROOM 1515]
  • Violas with Arturo Ziraldo [ROOM 1410]
  • Cellos with Pablo Mahave-Veglia [MAHAVE-VEGLIA STUDIO, room 2759]
  • Basses with Michael Hovnanian [Sherman Van Solkema Recital Hall] 

10:45 to 11:55 [ON STAGE] String Leadership Day Orchestra Rehearsal 

12:00 to 1:00 Lunch provided for all students and directors  [ROOM 1515] 

12:00 to 1:00 Tryout new violins, violas, and cellos from Grand Rapids Violins, LLC

1:00 to 1:30  Mini-Recital by the GVSU Faculty  [Sherman Van Solkema Hall]

1:30 to 3:00 Master Classes [with selection of Best of the Day soloists]

  • Violins with Megan Crawford [ON STAGE]

3:00 to 3:15  [LAT LOBBY] break for refreshments, sponsored by GVSU ASTA

3:20 to 5:00 [ON STAGE] String Leadership Day Orchestra Rehearsal 

[3:20 to 5:15 Individual rehearsal time with staff accompanist for Best of the Day soloists in Sherman Van Solkema Recital Hall]

5:00 to 7:00 Monitored storage for instruments [backstage]

5:00 to 7:00 [FREE TIME] Dinner on your own and change into concert dress

7:00 CONCERT storage for cases [backstage]

[ALL students must be in audience for first half of concert]

  • Performance by Best of the Day student soloists 
  • GVSU Symphony Orchestra, Henry Duitman, conductor (Smetana, The Moldau)
  • String Leadership Day Festival Orchestra, Henry Duitman, conductor (Anton Arensky, Variations on a Theme of Tchaikovsky)
  • POST-CONCERT RECEPTION FOR ALL STUDENTS AND AUDIENCE MEMBERS IN LOBBY
