About Us

Statistics is the science dedicated to the collection, organization, analysis, and interpretation of data. With the development of technology the collection of data has become ubiquitous, and it is vitally important that educated people be able to make sense of such large amounts of data. 

The Statistics Department offers a major in Statistics (with a potential emphasis in Actuarial Science) as well as three undergraduate minors: Applied StatisticsMathematical Statistics, and Data Science. In addition, our department offers a Professional Science Master’s degree in Biostatistics, M.S. in Applied Statistics, and M.S. in Data Science and Analytics. We are a unit of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.


Position Announcement

The Department of Statistics at Grand Valley State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position of Assistant Professor to begin August 6, 2024.  This is an open field search, and candidates from Statistics, Biostatistics, Data Science or a related field with a commitment to quality teaching and strong data analysis and computing skills are encouraged to apply.

We are particularly interested in receiving applications from candidates from underrepresented groups, candidates who have interest and/or experience in working with diverse student and community populations, and candidates working in emerging fields that can contribute to diversifying the expertise in our department.
