Julia A. Guevara, PhD, LMSW served in the GVSU School of Social Work (SSW) for 15 years as a member of the faculty, BSW program director, and interim director of the School. She left the SSW and served in the Office of the Provost for 11 years as an Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs with university-wide responsibilities for accreditation, assessment and strategic planning. Dr. Guevara recently returned to the Social Work faculty where she currently teaches in both graduate and undergraduate social work programs.
Julie has extensive experience having served on numerous non-profit human service boards as well as service with national professional social work organizations including the Council on Social Work Education-Commission on Accreditation, CSWE Global Commission, CSWE Nominating Committee, and the Baccalaureate Social Work Program Directors Board of Directors.
As a social work practitioner Dr. Guevara has worked in non-profit mental health organizations and has taught social work at the University of Tirana, Albania, and at a special program in Merida, Mexico. She has engaged in the study of human rights and international social work throughout Central America and for the past 20 years Dr. Guevara has lead both master and bachelor social work student on study abroad trips to El Salvador and Guatemala.
