Risk Identification

Consider risks related to the following categories:

1. Physical: Injuries arising from physical activities, improper food handling, and accidents during travel, natural disasters, etc.
2. Reputational: Damages to the individual student’s reputation, the image of the Registered Student Organization, or the reputation of Grand Valley State University.
3. Emotional: Damage to the emotional well-being of members or other event participants.
4. Financial: Budgetary losses or potentially unexpected costs.
5. Facilities: Damage to or neglect of event facilities, or conditions that endanger the safety of participants.

When your organization is planning an event, it is important to identify potential risks before they occur. Think beyond the obvious physical risk and identify all potential risks.
Thinking through the 5 categories of risk is a great way to identify risk that could affect you, your RSO and GVSU.
