GOAL 3.A: Enhance professional development opportunities.

Metric 3.A.1: Number of conferences, trainings, or workshops attended per year by faculty and staff.
Metric 3.A.2: Percent of newly hired faculty and staff members who are satisfied with the mentoring and onboarding process.
Metric 3.A.3: Number of faculty satisfied with feedback on potential areas of improvement and shared resources.
Metric 3.A.4: Number of faculty meeting the standards of ‘accomplished’ or ‘excellent’ in the area of teaching and research.

GOAL 3.B: Encourage and prepare faculty and staff to take on leadership roles within the college.

Metric 3.B.1: Satisfaction level of faculty and staff for the leadership opportunities provided (including both administrative and non-administrative opportunities).
Metric 3.B.2: Number of staff members who are interested and supported in participating in either committee roles or university and community engagement.
Metric 3.B.3: Number of faculty that are satisfied with the service opportunities that are appreciated by colleagues and leadership.
Metric 3.B.4: Number of faculty and staff feel well-prepared for leadership opportunities.

GOAL 3.C: Promote an environment where all areas of interest and roles are valued and everyone has similar access to resources.

Metric 3.C.1: Number of faculty that agree that they are evaluated fairly based on the amount and quality of their contributions (i.e., their chosen area of focus does not unfairly influence how someone is evaluated either positively or negatively).
Metric 3.C.2: Number of faculty and staff who agree that the unit strives towards fair workloads.
Metric 3.C.3: Number of faculty and staff who report feeling respected and recognized by colleagues and leadership.
Metric 3.C.4: Number of faculty and staff who agree they have similar access to resources such as TAs, GAs, release time, internal grant support, and professional development funds.

GOAL 3.D: Engage all faculty and staff in college activities that help build connections and create a greater sense of belonging.

Metric 3.D.1: Number of faculty and staff who report feeling a strong sense of belonging within the college.
Metric 3.D.2: Number of faculty and staff who are satisfied with informal opportunities to make and foster connections with colleagues.

Initiatives

  • Implement recruitment and targeted outreach efforts to attract students to computing fields. 
  • Develop direct credit transfer policies.
  • Launch new articulation agreements. 
  • Streamline application processes by providing timely decisions for applicants.
  • Offer competitive scholarships and graduate assistantships.
  • Develop a comprehensive onboarding program that includes mentoring, skill-building workshops, and community-building events to ensure a positive first-year experience.
  • Identify current students and alumni as ambassadors to share their experiences through panels, Q&A sessions, or social media, along with expanding tutoring, peer mentoring, and academic coaching resources.
  • Organize regular social gatherings, networking events, and informal meetups to encourage connections across departments and promote a sense of belonging.
  • Host events that celebrate the diversity of the student body, offering forums to share cultural experiences and address issues related to inclusivity and belonging.
  • Conduct regular feedback sessions and open forums to allow students to share their experiences, suggest improvements, and have a voice in decisions affecting their well-being.
  • Develop partnerships with local and national companies to increase student coaching, internship, co-curricular activities, and job placement opportunities.
  • Foster capstone projects that address real-world industry problems and encourage collaboration with industry mentors.
  • Involve alumni in curriculum review and experiential learning activities to strengthen industry connections and enhance practical learning opportunities.
  • Enhance the development of soft skills for career success.
  • Establish an alumni mentorship (coaching) program where students can connect with alumni in relevant fields for career advice and networking.
  • Host regular networking events and industry panels with employers in computing fields.
  • Expand the CoC’s alumni survey to track career trajectories and collect feedback on the academic programs’ effectiveness.
