Career Path: Assistant to City Manager of Grand Rapids

Grand Valley State University alumnus Tom Almonte was named assistant to the city manager

of Grand Rapids. Almonte has worked for the city for the past five years. Born in the Dominican Republic, Almonte moved with his family to Grand Rapids when he was 11 years old. Almonte earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and immediately began working as an account manager for a local company after graduation.

Along with his work for the city, Almonte serves as board member for the Grand Rapids Symphony. Almonte is also a member of the Caesar Chavez community as well as the city's Convention Arena Authority. He had served a two-year term as president of the West Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
