What is the Academic Success Institute?

The Academic Success Institute (ASI) is a pre-semester program that is designed to give Freshman Academy participants a head start on their first year at Grand Valley State University. The ASI is a free five-day program designed to empower Freshman Academy participants to develop a sense of responsibility for their own education and learning. Students who participate in the institute will earn one credit towards graduation.

Academic Success Institute 2017

The 2017 Academic Success Institute will be held August 16-21. Move-in for students will be 9am - 2pm on August 16. 

When and where will the ASI be held?

The Academic Success Institute will takes place in August, the week before general move in, at the GVSU main campus in Allendale, Michigan. ASI participants will be able to move in to their fall housing assignment on early. During the ASI, participants will be provided with meals through the dining halls at no cost.


ASI Content and Structure

ASI participants should plan for a very busy week since program activities will run from the morning through the evening each day. It will use intensive cooperative problem solving to assist students in developing their time management skills, refine critical thinking skills, and elevate math/reading/writing skills.

What are the benefits of participating in the ASI?

In addition to getting acclimated to the college campus, ASI participants will develop a support system with GVSU faculty members, staff members, and other students and earn college credit after completion of the institute.
