Third Party Food Truck Approval Milestones

Third Party Food trucks are only approved by the University after the both of the following milestones have been satisfied:

1.  The event coordinator has secured written approval from GVSU Dining, specific to the event

and

2. The desired food truck appears on this list which is updated by Risk Management: Approved Food Truck List

Navigating the Approved Food Truck List

If the food truck that you'd like to use has an expiration date occuring after the date of your event, that truck is deemed insurance-approved and there is no need to have your truck or event approved by Risk Management

If the food truck that you'd like to use isn't listed, or they are listed the expiration date occurs before your event, they are not approved and you'll need to complete the Food Truck Insurance Review Process

Food Truck Insurance Review Process

The Food Truck Insurance Review Process must be fully satisfied before Risk Management will add a truck to the Approved Food Truck List.

Step #1: Secure a current Certificate of Insurance from the food truck vendor and email it to Risk Management at [email protected]

Step #2: Risk Management will review the Certificate and

if it meets our Certificate of Insurance Minimum Standards it will be added to the Approved Food Truck List (at which point it's insurance approved)

If it doesn't meet our Minimum Standards, Risk Management will return it and provide a list of errors or corrections  (at which point you should decide if you want to repeat the process, or withdraw the truck from consideration)

Certificate of Insurance - Mininum Standards

Feel free to share the following list of REQUIRED minimum insurance standards, or a copy of the Example Certificate of Insurance with the food truck vendor that you're trying to get approved.  They should feel free to share that information with their insurance broker who should assist them in either securing the paperwork we need, or notifying them that they don't meet our minimum standards.

REQUIRED

  • Commercial General Liability limits of not less than $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 general aggregate
  • Commercial Auto Liability limits of not less than $1,000,000 Combined Single limit

RECOMMENDED but not required at this time:

  • Workers Compensation meeting all statutory requirements and Employers Liability with limits of not less than $500,000 each accident and disease

Certificates are unlikely to be approved, when:

  • Personal Auto Liability limits are provided in lieu of Commercial Auto coverage
  • Minimum limits aren't met

RECAP - Truck is approved when:

1.  The event coordinator has secured written approval from GVSU Dining, specific to the event

and

2. The desired food truck appears on this list which is updated by Risk Management: Approved Food Truck List
