"I have been overweight my entire life and have battled with eating disorders, weight fluctuations, and poor body image along the way. When I got to GVSU  for graduate school, I was weighing the most I had ever weighed, and I felt completely awful and defeated. I heard about the UFit program at GVSU, and I decided that would be my first step towards bettering myself. I am nowhere close to where I want to be but I know that everyday I am moving closer to that goal. It is a long journey but you just need to know that it is going to be worth it in the end. Just keep going! I chose to participate in the UFit program because I liked the idea of meeting with someone to talk about my goals and help make a plan for my personal fitness goals. It was amazing to sit and talk about my health with someone who knew how to answer the questions I had and debunk some of the myths I had heard. I also love the support system that I have with Campus Rec. I have noticed that I feel more connected to the university by going through the program and going to the rec center just because I can see so many students and interact with some there also. I feel happier about my decision to attend GVSU, and I love that I can go burn off stress at the rec center. It is becoming a second home."
