"From being scared to enter the gym to wanting to go there everyday, I would say that becoming involved in Recreation & Wellness was one of my best ideas. I started out going to Group Exercise classes because I never knew how to properly work out or how to lift weights. I was nervous about going to the gym alone and messing up. Group Ex has helped tremendously with my fear of messing up and my fear of working out. The instructors do a great job of teaching you the proper methods and they even add in modifications if you are getting tired or if the exercise just isn't right for your body. After taking a semester of Group Ex classes, I fell in love with them, and I couldn't wait for next semester to start. After gaining strength through the classes, I decided to try rock climbing. I was always terrified because I never thought I could hold my own weight or even attempt to get to the top. After going to the Climbing Center for a while, I have become belay certified, and I am getting stronger every single time I climb. It is such a good stress reliever for me and a fun way to exercise. Last year, I would have never thought I would be where I am today, I never thought I would actually like going to the gym. Through RecWell programs, I am able to be more confident in who I am and more outgoing because I know there will be benefits in the future.

I participate in RecWell programs because they have been able to boost my confidence and self-esteem. They have helped me eat better and learn how to take care of my body in the proper way.

Being involved in Recreation & Wellness has impacted my experience at GVSU because I have been able to meet new people who are passionate about the same activities that I am. It is so easy to find friends within RecWell because through group exercise and the instructors, it is a fun and welcoming environment that is able to help people meet new people."
