Description
While the entire Confident Outdoor Climber series is meant to provide aspiring climbers with confidence needed taking the sport outdoors, this workshop covers some of the most important gym-to-crag skills (skills that indoor climbers don't need but outdoor climbers use often). Whether you're planning to lead outdoor climbs with friends from the gym or are going with a group and plan to "just climb" but still want to be helpful, this is an ideal workshop for bolstering what you already know in order to operate more competently in an outdoor environment. This workshop is for you if you've ever asked questions like: How do we get the gear back? helmets aren't worn indoors, why should I wear them outdoors? What do I do if I can't make it to the top on lead? How do I get back down if being lowered isn't allowed? In the gym I use a ground anchor, what do I do outside? Having the knowledge to solve these and other similar problems will also make you someone others want to take on ALL their climbing adventures!
Topics include: Bailing from a route, Cleaning the anchors, Rappelling/ Lowering, Outdoor ground anchors & more!
Format: In-person
Cost: $15 students; $20 faculty/ staff
This event also appears on the main events calendar tagged as dsa, dsafirstyear, dsasecondyear, outdooradventures, recwell, and workshop.
