Description
A perfect workshop for GVSU students who wants to learn about the basics of ice climbing or plans to attend the OA trip to the Michigan Ice Climbing Festival in February and has never ice climbed before. The topics we'll cover include: basic equipment, clothing for cold weather activity, & basic technique for climbing water ice efficiently. We'll start with an informal discussion in a classroom setting and follow it up with hands-on practice with a technique known as dry-tooling at the Climbing Center.
No experience is necessary but knowledge of how to tie a figure-8 follow through knot and belay with a tubular style device is beneficial for the hands-on portion. Basic climbing equipment (harness, helmet, belay device, etc...) will be provided by the Climbing Center on an as-needed basis.
Please RSVP at least 48 hours in advance so we may adequately prepare for the event.
Cost: $5
