Climbing Center staff are the face of the Climbing Center. Shift staff work weekly but part-time hours overseeing all aspects of the open hours operation. They are part customer service representative, part risk manager, and part climbing instructor. Ideal applicants are passionate, dependable, safety-minded, and eager to share the joy of climbing with others. Due to the comprehensive training each shift staff receive, there are also many opportunities each semester to pickup additional hours working special events and instructing technical lessons.

Details
Start Date: January 11, 2021
(Training begins December 7)
Duration: 16 weeks
Hours: 4-8 per week
Location: GVSU Allendale Campus, Climbing Center
Qualifications / Requirements
- Climbing Wall Instructor Certification (any level) required (see Event Calendar for next offering)
- At least 1 semester of climbing experience
- Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours for he current semester (12 if awarded work study) or upcoming Fall
- Top Rope Belay certification strongly preferred
- Training Schedule will be determined based on new hire availability:
- New Hire Orientation: tbd
- Climbing Wall Management: tbd
- First Aid, CPR, AED, & BBP certification (unless already certified)
Responsibilities
Staff responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Daily Operations (climber check-in, visitor orientation, general supervision, event promotion, equipment rental, & belay lesson instruction)
- Technical Instruction,
- General Equipment and Wall Maintenance,
- Route Setting
- Group Event Staffing
