Climbing Center groups staff work part-time, as-needed hours overseeing private group reservations.  During the academic year (September - April), groups we see will be a mix of student organizations, academic classes, & general public groups (scouts, youth groups, birthday parties, etc...).  During the Spring/ Summer semester (May - August), most of the group work revolves around high school "overnighters".  The season only spans a few weeks in late May/ early June but require a larger-than-usual number of belayers for late nights/ early mornings.  Applicants must be willing to work occasional nights and/ or weekends.

Start Date: Sun., May 3, 2020
(Training begins March 13)

Duration: 16 Weeks

Hours: Variable, Irregular Week-to-Week

Location: GVSU Allendale Campus, Climbing Center 

Qualifications / Requirements

• At least 1 semester climbing experience preferred
• Approved top rope belayer
• Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours for the current semester (12 if awarded work study) or upcoming Fall  
• Must be able to attend the following trainings:
  • New Hire Orientation: Friday, March 27; 5 p.m.- 8 p.m.
  • Groups Training: Friday, April 24; 3 p.m.- 5:30 p.m. (final exam week) 
  • First Aid, CPR, AED, & BBP certification: tbd pending need

Beginning Fall 2020, a Climbing Wall Instructor Certification (any level) will be required for all Climbing Center Shift Staff.  Strongly preferred pre-application.
