Welcome to Fall 2021

Walks with the carillon telling you the time, a favorite spot for sipping coffee next to a fountain, hammocks tied to trees in the Arboretum, the one campus study spot that clears your head and opens your mind for learning, a stroll along the Grand River as the city hustles, a hike in the ravines to reach a quieter version of the Grand River. All of it is Grand Valley. Welcome!

Frequently Asked Questions

GVSU plans to offer a variety of course options for fall semester, including in-person, hybrid and online. We look forward to welcoming Lakers to campus this fall for classes, housing and dining options, and so much more.

If you are fully vaccinated, you are exempt from wearing a face covering indoors, except everyone must continue to wear a face covering in academic classrooms, labs and other indoor areas of academic instruction.

Face coverings are required:

  • of all unvaccinated students, faculty, staff and visitors when indoors at all campus locations with the few exceptions below.
  • of all persons at GVSU COVID-19 testing sites, the Campus Health Center, the Family Health Center and any potential on-campus COVID-19 vaccination site.

Exceptions to indoor mask requirements for unvaccinated persons:

  • In your specific assigned room, suite, or apartment when only you or your roommates are present.
  • In dining areas, while eating and drinking.
  • In an enclosed space, when an individual is the sole occupant.

Face coverings are not required outdoors.

Those who are vaccinated may choose to wear a face covering where one is not required on campus and will be supported by all Lakers for doing so.

Currently GVSU does not have a mandate for the COVID-19 vaccine for the Fall semester. Our current focus is to encourage vaccinations and make them accessible on campus. We will continue to evaluate the idea of a mandate between now and the Fall semester. Additionally, we will continue to follow state and county health guidance and recommendations. Based off surveys we have conducted, our students, faculty and staff overwhelmingly wish to be vaccinated for COVID-19 or have self-reported they have already been vaccinated. We will stay vigilant to keep our community safe. Learn more on the Lakers Together website.

GVSU is working to offer full campus experience! This is dependent on the vaccination rate of students. Schedule your vaccine today and document it in your self-assessment

The Office of Student Life will be hosting traditional GVSU events this fall, including Campus Life Night (student organization fair), Homecoming, Family Weekend, and more! There will also be opportunities for community service (volunteer projects), and democratic engagement (voter registration, discussions, and lectures). Campus Activities Board (CAB) will host frequent social events, where students will be able to see live music and comedians, learn a skill, create art, make friends and relax—all on campus! CAB is one of our 300+ Registered Student Organizations, many of whom host both social and educational events that all students are welcome to attend.

Students can follow the Office of Student Life on Twitter & Instagram @GVSUStudentLife and on Facebook by searching Grand Valley Student Life. More information is available on the Office of Student Life website or by calling (616) 331-2345.
