Resolution
WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of Grand Valley State University had previously reviewed and approved the Strategic Positioning: Strategic Plan 2016-2021 to ensure that the university operates in a way to realize its mission; and
WHEREAS, a selected group of University representatives were convened as the Reach Higher 2025 Steering Committee to lead the strategy development process for 2021-2025; and
WHEREAS, all constituents were afforded the opportunity to participate in and be heard by the strategic development process; and
WHEREAS, the Board has supported the strategy development process and engaged in its evolution over the past three years; and
WHEREAS, the faculty and student governance bodies and the Administrative Professional Committee endorsed Reach Higher 2025; and
WHEREAS, the Board has directed the administration to exercise its responsibilities to ensure that Reach Higher 2025 is approved, and that it is implemented, and that accountability is measured;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Trustees of Grand Valley State University endorses the University strategy, Reach Higher 2025, as presented at this meeting; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board approves the Grand Valley State University shared values as inquiry, inclusive and equitable community, innovation, integrity, and international perspectives; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board approves the Grand Valley State University vision as: Grand Valley State University will prepare globally minded citizens for the future they face and the communities they shape. Our community of educators will create and employ innovative approaches to liberal education and professional programs that center on and prepare students for a lifetime of continual learning and growth; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board approves the Grand Valley State University mission statement as: At Grand Valley State University, we empower learners in their pursuits, professions, and purpose. The University enriches society through excellent teaching, active scholarship, advancement of equity, and public service; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board approves the Grand Valley State University commitments as: an empowered educational experience, a lifetime of learning, and educational equity.

Permanent link for AP Committee Support of RH2025 on January 27, 2022

The Administrative Professionals (AP) Executive Committee is a representative body of AP staff that reviews and makes recommendations about Grand Valley State University personnel policies and other university decisions that affect AP staff.
After feedback opportunities from all AP staff, the AP Executive Committee supports the process and current (January 2022) version of the draft values, mission, vision, and strategic themes of RH2025. We look forward to having AP play a major role in defining the specific programs and policies that will lead to the outcomes set forth in RH 2025.

Permanent link for UAS Votes to Endorse RH2025 on January 27, 2022

At its regular meeting on January 21, 2022, the University Academic Senate (UAS) passed a motion to support, by
a vote of 87%, the endorsement of the RH2025 Strategic Plan of the new Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategies. UAS members expressed appreciation for the extended process of revisions of the strategic plan and in so doing, acknowledged that the latest version is more pleasant to read than previous versions. In addition, it was noted that it will be important to continue to work together to enact the plan and honor the time invested into building a strong plan that more people could buy into.
The UAS forwards this memo as the official position of GVSU faculty, represented by UAS.

Permanent link for Student Senate Approval of the Reaching Higher 2025 Steering Committee Updated Strategic Plan on January 18, 2022

We, the Grand Valley State University Student Senate, acting on behalf of the Student Body, would like to state that we are extending our approval of the Reaching Higher 2025 Steering Committee current version as of January 2022 including the draft goals, values, mission, vision, and themes.
We, as members of Grand Valley State University’s Student Senate, dedicate ourselves to cultivating a student body that is engaged, healthy, and empowered. We pledge to represent all students and their diverse, ever-changing needs. With persistency, intentionality, and integrity, we strive to create a Laker experience that is equitable, accessible, and sustainable. Student Senate is founded upon serving the student body with notions of engagement, health, and empowerment all of which the Reaching Higher content embodies.
The Reaching Higher 2025 Steering Committee aligns with Student Senate goals and priorities. We are endorsing RH2025 as we look forward to the implementation process on all levels across the Grand Valley campuses.
