Success Story: Paul Kramer

Business growth often comes by sharing business successes

Grand Valley State University is interested in the growth of our business partners and is excited to share success stories, highlighting how our mutual goals are achieved by working together. Our business partners have a strong desire to meet our institutional needs and to bring innovation to our campus by collaborating with divisions and departments who steward University resources. This partnership is a result of relationship building and doing business and our desire is to share these stories to model lead practices and to share potential opportunities within our campus community.

Daddy Pete’s Station Take over at Fresh Food Co.

On February 23, Daddy Pete’s brought a selection of their fantastic smoked meats and sides to the Fresh Food Company inside Commons.  They took over an entire entrée line for dinner.  The campus community was informed via signage and social media teasers leading up to the takeover.  Supplies did not last long!  Daddy Pete’s served 250 portions before dinner ended.  Their food and service was great!  Guests enjoyed the featured items and interacting with this locally and alumni owned business.

Here is a little bit about their story:

It all started with a desire to make delicious, smoked meats, cooked low & slow, southern-style.  That desire to cook for the family sparked an even bigger interest when Pitmaster, Cory Davis won a local barbecue competition.  From there, he knew he had the beginnings of a recipe that his dad, Pete, would be proud of.  Cory also found that his winning cooking process, delectable rub, and sweet BBQ sauce would be a combination people would come to love.

Finally, all that was needed was some hard work and perseverance on behalf of “Mrs. Pete”, Tarra Davis, to bring the business to life with a business & marketing plan, as well as a few delectable side dishes & desserts to bring Daddy Pete’s to life.

Now, Daddy Pete’s BBQ, LLC is a family-owned business that is proud to bring it’s fresh, local, southern-smoked meats to the Greater Grand Rapids area!
