Sonia Dalmia

Sonia Dalmia began her appointment as the Interim Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs in August 2021. Her primarily responsibilities include university-level leadership in assessment and accreditation and facilitating college/unit planning efforts to support the new University strategy (Reach Higher 2025).

Dr. Dalmia earned her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Iowa; an M.A. in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics; a B.A. (honors) in Economics and a B.Ed. in Economics and Mathematics from the University of Delhi, India. She came to Grand Valley as an Assistant Professor of Economics in 1999, earning tenure and promotion in 2005 and promotion to Professor in 2012. She has published extensively on the economics of marriage. Her research is cited both nationally and internationally and is frequently used as assigned reading in classrooms around the world.

Sonia also serves as Chair of the Economics Department and as Assessment Director for the Seidman College of Business. She is a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission and serves on the Kent Hospital Finance Authority Board.
