Jay Fleming majored in political science and is now attending MSU College of Law under the joint GVSU-MSU Legal Education Admission Program (LEAP). He is currently clerking for Judge John McBain in Jackson County. Next year, he will be taking classes through the Geoffrey Fieger Trial Practice Institute. This upcoming winter, Jay will clerk for Judge Michael Riordan on the Michigan Court of Appeals.
As an undergraduate at GVSU, Jay was the Vice President of Finance for the GVSU Law Society and played longsnapper for the football team. He participated in the GV in DC program in conjunction with The Washington Center where he served as public policy intern for Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America. He also interned in a county prosecutor’s office in Michigan. Under the LEAP program, Jay completed his GVSU requirements in three years of study.
Jay writes, "The knowledge, accessibility, and expertise of the Grand Valley Political Science Department helped foster my love of learning, which is one of the reasons I decided to attend the MSU College of Law under the Legal Education Admission Program. Majoring in political science prepared me immensely for law school, especially in terms of reading and writing."
