Johnston to Peace Corps

Jacob Johnston, a political science major and 2016 graduate, is joining the Peace Corps.
On June 22nd, I will be departing to Ouagadougou, the Capital of
Burkina Faso, to start training for two years of service as a
Community Economic Development Volunteer. As a CED volunteer, I will
be working with community and business partners in order to create and
strengthen economic and agricultural income based activities, as well
as teaching business management skills for retention of growth in the future.
I'm really thankful for my experience and the opportunities that
were offered to me here at Grand Valley, where I was encouraged to
take proactive steps in my lessons in academia about the importance of
engaging in a global perspective. I'm glad to be taking steps beyond
my time as Laker to live the Laker effect.
