One Michigan Alliance Internship

One Michigan Alliance & Team David LaGrand are seeking interns to
work alongside a team of experienced elected officials, organizers,
and strategists to assist progressive candidates and issue campaigns.
Interns will gain valuable first-hand experience planning campaign
strategies for multiple local races, organizing grassroots events, and
lobbying local elected officials in support of progressive policies.
Interns can expect to interact frequently with local leaders and

our work to promote progressive values in West Michigan. Interns will
be trained, given important responsibilities and held accountable for
reaching goals. Interns will participate in each of the following:
•Field Organization: Community outreach, visibility events, volunteer organization, data entry, etc.
•Event Planning and Fundraising: Research, database
management, pledge follow-up, thank you note organization, and event
planning and execution.
•Grassroots Projects: Assist with planning and execution of grassroots-led demonstrations and events.
•Communications and Policy: Website, email and social media organization, and research tasks.
•Office Assistant Tasks: Operations management, mailings, and various project management jobs.
•Special Projects: Campaign planning, digital design, photography.
•Monthly Organizational Meetings: Meetings will occur as needed, with official organizational meetings once per month.
Applicants should have a dynamic personality, excellent verbal communication skills, solid organizational abilities and a strong work ethic. Applicants should be self-motivated with a strong interest in political and/or issue campaigns and a commitment to progressive values. No experience in grassroots organizing or political campaigns is required. Applicants should be willing to work four hours or more per week at our headquarters in the Boston Square neighborhood of Grand Rapids.

One Michigan Alliance is dedicated to building a progressive movement ready and able to win in West Michigan. We are an action-oriented political organization of experienced activists and community leaders dedicated to engaging people in the political process. Our goal is to help progressive candidates win elections and to work to implement progressive policies. We’re political, we’re local, and we’re strategic. One Michigan Alliance was co-founded by State Representative David LaGrand and interns will have the opportunity to work directly work with him and his team.
The internship is unpaid, but One Michigan Alliance will work with you to earn academic credit at your school or college. Interns will leave with a portfolio of work, a letter of reference, and the skills and experience to be employed on political campaigns and at governmental and non-profit organizations.
Start Date: Immediately
End Date: 12/8/2017 with option to extend to spring semester
