This Oscar nominated film, starring George Clooney, tells the story of news reporters’ efforts to stand up to Joseph McCarthy who, in the 1950’s, used his power as a US Senator to stoke fears of Communism and to threaten freedom of speech and of the press. It is a triumphant narrative that shows how a small group of people can resist state power and defend fundamental human rights.
