David Johnson

David Johnson

David C. Johnson received a B.A. degree in international relations from GVSU in 2004.

David is an associate in the Global Sourcing practice of the law firm Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman and is located in the Washington, D.C. office. He focuses on technology transactions, including business process outsourcing transactions; software licensing; and other related corporate transactions. David also advises clients on a range of international trade law matters, including anti-corruption, export controls, and anti-boycott law.

David received a J.D. from the University of Michigan in 2012. In law school, David was a contributing editor of the Michigan Journal of International Law and served as president of the Asia Law Society. During law school Mr. Johnson advised new entrepreneurs and worked for a land rights organization in Beijing, China. David was also active throughout law school in representing victims of human trafficking. David is a member of both the New York Bar Association and Washington, D.C. Bar Association.

Between undergraduate school and law school, David owned and managed a construction materials export firm. He traveled to over 30 countries consulting on large infrastructure projects globally, and opened HMI Worldwide’s first regional office in Nanjing, China.

David writes, “My professors in GVSU's IR program taught me two valuable lessons: First, it is worth the time and effort to think deeply and critically about problems, because the full picture is rarely as simple as we might first assume. Second, analyze things globally, to recognize that events do not occur in a geographic/cultural/societal vacuum. These lessons have become critical tools in my professional and personal development.”
