Kalusniak Wins Excellence-in-a-Discipline Award

Congratulations to Rachel Kalusniak, this year’s winner of the International Relations Excellence-in-a-Discipline Award!

Rachel is graduating from the Honors College this year with a double major in International Relations and Economics and a minor in Applied Statistics. In addition to excelling at her coursework, Rachel served as president of the GVSU Model United Nations Club for two years, volunteered regularly as a tour guide for Grand Valley’s scholarship competitions, and worked as a tutor for economics classes and as a student assistant in the GVSU President’s Office. Rachel presented two research papers at both the Mideast Honors Association Conference and Grand Valley’s Student Scholars Day. She is a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Society and the Phi Kappa Phi Academic Honors Society. Rachel was named the 2019 GVSU Outstanding Student in Economics.

Along with her experiences at Grand Valley, Rachel studied abroad in the Fall of 2019 in the School of Business and Economics at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. She also attended The Washington Center academic internship program in the Spring of 2020 where she worked at the U.S. Department of Commerce for the International Trade Administration’s Advocacy Center, interacting with U.S. companies, embassies, and various government agencies.

After graduation, Rachel plans to work for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan as an analyst. Congratulations, Rachel!
