Gjolaj Wins Gayle Davis Award

Jessica Gjolaj is the 2023 winner of GVSU's Gayle R. Davis Award. Named for former GVSU Provost Gayle Davis, the award goes to a first generation sophomore or junior college student who shows a promising future as a leader.

Jessica is a Political Science and International Relations double major from South Lyon, Michigan. She is a first generation college student finishing her second year at GVSU and is a leader on campus. Her contributions to campus life include: working as a Resident Assistant for Campus Housing; serving on the Student Senate and member of the Diversity Affairs and Allocation committees; and contributing to the Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society. This semester she participated in the Midwest Model European Union in Bloomington, Indiana, as a member of GVSU’s Denmark delegation. As the Danish Environment Minister, she drafted, debated, and approved EU law that improved environmental quality for all of the member states.


Jessica spent part of her childhood in Albania and is fluent in Albanian. She is a recent recipient of Thompson Working Families Achiever Scholar Award at GVSU.


Jessica and other award winners will be honored at the Student Awards Convocation on Monday, April 10.
