Preparing To Transfer

Math Placement

An important aspect of transferring to GVSU is the Math Placement Exam. This exam will determine the appropriate level of math that you should start with. This exam should be completed prior to your transfer advising and registration session. More information about the math placement exam, along with the exam itself, can be found here

AP Credit

It is important to make sure that you have transferred any AP Credits to GVSU in order to make your transition here as smooth as possible. Grand Valley State University will grant credit for appropriate scores on AP tests. In order to receive credit, transfer students must request that the College Board send score reports directly to Grand Valley. If you have any AP credits that you need to transfer, please follow this link to have your scores sent directly to Grand Valley State University. Please note that AP scores from your previous institution will not transfer to GVSU, even if they appear on your transcript from that institution. You will still need to request that your score be sent directly to GVSU from the College Board.

Ordering Transcripts

When transferring to GVSU, it is important to send your transcripts from all previous institutions that you have attended. This will help us make sure that you are able to register for the appropriate classes and that you have the proper credit for any classes that you have already completed. This should be completed prior to attending your transfer orientation. You can find more information about transcripts, as well as some FAQs.

MACRAO/MTA Articulations

The  Michigan Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (MACRAO) Transfer Agreement and the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) are designed to facilitate transfers from community colleges to baccalaureate colleges and universities. You can find more information about the MACRAO/MTA here. You must have an MTA Stamp on your transcript in order for GVSU to honor the MTA.
