In-Kind Donations

Although the savings potential of bicycling from things such as fuel costs, parking passes, & general maintenance are simple to calculate, benefits such as less congested roads & parking lots, general health improvements, cleaner air, & the convenience of parking feet from your building are much more difficult to attach a value & to some people may be considered priceless.

If you agree that bicycling, for whatever reason, is an important part of the GVSU experience and is an integral part of achieving lifelong health, happiness, and maintaining sustainability in our environment, please consider making a donation to help it reach its full potential on our campuses.

Because of its plethora of benefits, the Bike Shop aims to be the driving force behind GVSU receiving recognition as a Bicycle Friendly University™ as awarded by the League of American Bicyclists.  To do so, the University as a whole needs to perform at a high level in 5 categories: Education, Encouragement, Engineering, Evaluation/ Planning, & Enforcement.  Although the Bike Shop is only able to have a direct impact on Education & Encouragement, we are always trying to develop stronger working relationships with University partners to further enhance the Engineering, Enforcement, & Evaluation of our bicycle infrastructure.

Donate Your Bike

Do you have a bike that you don't ride any more?  Are you graduating and don't want to take your bike with you?  Does your bike have mechanical issues that you feel aren't worth having fixed?

If you answered "Yes" to any of these questions, please consider donating your bicycle to the GVSU Bike Shop.  At the discretion of the Bike Shop staff, your donation will likely be used in 1 of 2 ways:

  1. Spare Parts
The Bike Shop relies heavily on a steady supply of used parts in order to keep maintenance costs of the rental fleet at a minimum.
As space allows we hope to develop a surplus of used parts that can be made available to all GVSU students and staff for little to no cost.  Even if your bike is not ride-able and is heavily rusted, there are likely usable parts within it.
  2. Rental Fleet Additions
Donated bikes that are in good condition may be entered into the rental fleet as a replacement for an aging bike or as a supplement to the fleet as demand grows for rentals.  If you enjoyed having your bike during your time at GVSU, this opportunity allows other students and staff to have the same enjoyment while offering them an inexpensive, safe, and reliable means of transportation that they may not have had otherwise.

To donate your bike, please follow these simple steps:

  1. Complete the Bike Donation Form.
  2. Bring your bike to the Bike Shop during any of our self-service hours.

All bike donations are tax-deductible.  If you would like a receipt for tax purposes please let us know when you drop off your bike.

Monetary Gifts

Much of the current Bike Shop operation is not subsidized by additional University funds.  To be successful, many aspects of our current operations as well as any new programs, services, & initiatives depend on the efforts of passionate volunteers & generous donors. Please consider making an in-kind donation that will help us improve our bike rental program, self-service maintenance shop, educational clinics, & awareness initiatives.  To make a donation, please follow the link below, select the option "I would like to apply my gift to a specific fund", then choose "Bike Program Gifts" from the list.
