DESCRIPTION:As a first-generation college student\, I began my higher education journey with no clear path. After being introduced to research\, I learned how my personal experiences shape my scholarship. Little did I know that the questions I asked in my scholarship would also clarify my purpose\, molding me into a Pan-Africanist and community-engaged scholar advocate. Join me as we discuss how scholars are informed by their work and how their work helps them find their why.\n\n\n\nDr. Jakia Marie (&#39\;13 &amp\; &#39\;16)is an assistant professor of Sociology\, primarily teaching courses in anthropology and African and African American Diaspora studies. She holds a B.A. in liberal studies\, an M.Ed. in Higher Education with an emphasis in college student affairs leadership\, an M.A. in anthropology\, and a Ph.D. in Pan-African studies. Dr. Marie&rsquo\;s work theoretically and empirically explores race\, gender\, ethnicity\, and identity intersections within social and educational constructs in Africa and across the African Diaspora.
