GVSU Occupational Safety & Health Management Program Recognized as Value Leader

Grand Valley’s B.S. in Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) Management program has been recognized as one of the Top 10 ‘Best Value Online Occupational Safety and Heath Bachelor’s for 2021’ by Value Colleges, an independent online guide dedicated to helping students make the best choices for their college education.
The OSH program at GVSU prepares students to become exceptional professionals who will impact the safety and health of today and tomorrow’s workforce. Through a variety of classroom and industry experiential learning opportunities, students gain in-depth understanding of the practices and laws required to work in the ever growing and changing field of professional safety. The OSH program prioritizes ethical behavior, an appreciation for diversity, lifelong learning, and social responsibility.

“Occupational health and safety jobs span many sectors,” stated Value Colleges. “There will always be a need for professionals in this field because safety and health in the workplace will always be important.” This is certainly true in Michigan and across the United States, as demand for competent, fully-qualified safety professionals continues to grow. The GVSU OSH Program is one of only two ABET accredited OSH programs in Michigan working to fulfill this demand.
Too often, students aren’t aware that they can major in Occupational Safety & Health until they get to college and discover the profession. It’s a great career for individuals who enjoy variety; like analyzing and solving problems; are willing to respond to emergencies; and care about protecting others.
Safety and Health professionals develop measures for controlling workplace hazards in order to limit employee injuries and financial losses. They analyze operating procedures, materials, machines, and conditions at work sites to determine risks of injury, occupational disease, and damage to property and equipment. OSH professionals work in a wide variety of industries and may specialize in transportation, construction, environmental problems, product design, insurance loss control, fire and property protection, or health care.
