With a career spanning 25 years as a foreign correspondent, Julie McCarthy offers an on-the-ground assessment of a world where democracy is in peril and the struggle for human rights an ongoing challenge. A highly decorated journalist, McCarthy has covered Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and South America. She won a Peabody Award for her coverage of Pakistan, as well as additional awards throughout her career. Reporting from NPR’s newly opened Manilla Bureau, McCarthy will report on current events in the Philippines and Hong Kong, serving as case studies for larger conversations on the fight for human rights worldwide.
