Eduardo Chávez was only three years old when his grandfather, the civil rights activist César Chávez, passed away. Growing up comfortably in the Bay area, where his father was a lawyer, Eduardo had difficulty connecting with his grandfather's struggle. He shielded away from opportunities to speak about "la causa" because he did not feel worthy of representing it. "Hailing César" is a documentary in which Eduardo Chávez aims at exploring the life and legacy of his grandfather, César Chávez. Additionally, Eduardo explores his own identity in an attempt to become more comfortable with the legacy and responsibility of his last name.
