Description

We are excited to bring in three performers from the Grand Rapids Symphony for Oboe Master Classes during the 2021-2022 Academic Year.

January 24, February 28, and April 11: Ellen Sherman 

Principal oboist of the Grand Rapids Symphony since September 2001, Ellen Sherman formerly was principal English hornist with the New Zealand Symphony. She has served as principal oboe with the Memphis Symphony, Virginia Symphony, New Hampshire Symphony, and the Santiago Philharmonic in Chile and has performed many times with the Utah Symphony including for its 2005 European tour.

A longtime member of the Carmel Bach Festival, Ellen has participated in numerous music festivals around the country, including the Colorado Music Festival, Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, and the Carmel Bach Festival.

She has played with the Boston Ballet and Opera Company of Boston, the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, and the Boston Classical Orchestra. She toured Europe with Leonard Bernstein and the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival and has recorded for New World, Telarc, Koch, and Naxos.

The Boston native studied at the New England Conservatory of Music and earned a master's degree from The Juilliard School of Music.
