Description

Renowned choral conductor Craig Jessop leads the GVSU Arts Chorale and local high school students in a rousing holiday celebration featuring Robert Shaw’s The Many Moods of Christmas. Jessop, professor of music and founding dean for the Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University, is the former director of the world-famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He led that celebrated ensemble as featured conductor for the opening ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

The Many Moods of Christmas showcases the timeless secular and sacred music of 18 of our most traditional carols combined with cherished music from composers such as Handel, Bizet, and Bach. Far from being just another arrangement of carols, The Many Moods of Christmas is an oratorio-like masterpiece that truly bestows on the audience universally popular melodies, coupled with differing cultures and epochs of celebratory music, which fills the listener with the magic and excitement of the holidays.

Come join us on December 3, as we inaugurate the holiday season with a unique opportunity to experience this stunning musical treasure conducted by one of our nation’s most revered choral conductors and performed in the spectacularly beautiful setting of Fountain Street Church.
