Description

Sub-merge: Raising Water Awareness through Music, Dance, and Science

Freshwater is one of the most precious natural resources on the planet. This project proposes to increase citizen awareness of the issues surrounding water by integrating dance, music, and science into a performance piece. Our unique educational approach will break new ground by combining scientific narrative (Steinman) with artistic interpretation through dance and music (Seidel and Cho, respectively), with the goal of inspiring citizens to become better informed, and more proactive, in the protection of our water resources.

Narration written by Alan D. Steinman, Ph.D.
Music: Commissioned music written by Teddy Niedermaier, Daniel Temkin, and Jeremy Crosmer
Piano Trios by G. Faure and D. Shostakovich
Performances by: Sookkyung Cho (piano), Hong-Yi Mo (violin), Jeremy Crosmer (cello), and FOURtepiano (8-hand piano ensemble: Natalie Evancoe, Courtney Saunders, Zach Forsleff, and Rebekah Shomsky)
Dance Choreography: Hannah Seidel with the dancers
Dance Performers: Courtney Drasner, Olivia Karenas, Kristy Kuhn, Ross Lindhout, Ryan Schwaar, Victoria VanderPlas
Narration: Roger Ellis

* Funding for this project is provided by GVSU’s Center for Scholarly and Creative Excellence,  The Allen and Helen Hunting Research and Innovation Fund at GVSU's  Annis Water Resources Institute, and the Community Foundation for Muskegon County.
