About

Gregrey Secor is currently an instructor at Grand Valley State University, and Hope College where he directs the Percussion Ensemble's, the Steelband (GVSU) and teaches courses in music literature. Secor is a member of the percussion section of the Kalamazoo Symphony, and performs regularly with the Grand Rapids Symphony. He is active as a steel drum performer with the Grand Rapids-based Pangea Steelband, and is half of the Coalescence Percussion Duo with Kalamazoo-based percussionist Judy Moonert.

In addition, he performs with The Opus 21: Music Without Boundaries Group with recent performances in Ann Arbor and New York at Merkin Hall in 2003, 2004 and May 2005, April 2006 at Symphony Space. He has performed at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in 2001, and in 2005, Secor performed the World premiere of Christopher Deane's "A Robe of Orange Flame." The Coalescence Duo performed at the 2006 PASIC in Austin Texas. Secor also keeps an active chamber music schedule with Ensemble Montage, The Saugatuck Chamber Music Festival and The Fontana Chamber Arts Series.

Recent commissions for solo works have been composed by Christopher Deane, Pieter Snapper and Rupert Kettle.

Secor received the Bachelor of Music degree from Western Michigan University, where he studied with Judy Moonert, and the Master of Music from the University of Cincinnati's College/Conservatory of Music where his teachers were Benjamin Toth and Al Otte.
