Please visit the GVSU Choral Ensembles page for detailed information about our ensembles. Please contact Professor Shirley Lemon at lemons@gvsu.edu to schedule an audition.

Please contact Professor Tim Froncek (froncekt@gvsu.edu) to arrange an audition.

Audition information is available at https://www.gvsu.edu/marchingband/

All brass, percussion, string and woodwind students enrolled in applied music lessons are required to participate in Wind Symphony (MUS 112, TR 2:30-4:20 pm), Orchestra (MUS 103, MWF 1:00-2:20 pm) or Concert Band (MUS 102, MWF 2:30-3:50 pm), except Bachelor of Arts majors who may elect other ensembles as indicated in the student handbook. You will play a single audition and will be placed in an ensemble based on the audition committee's decisions. Music majors and non-majors who are not enrolled in applied music lessons may elect to only audition for one ensemble, but will not be guaranteed placement in that ensemble.

Those students not enrolled in applied lessons who are only interested in auditioning for the Concert Band, please click here  for your music and information.

Auditions will be conducted behind a screen and require the preparation of a specific set of musical pieces which is available below. Audition results for wind, brass, and percussion will be posted by the end of the first day of classes.

If you have questions about the audition process, please contact Dr. Mark Williams at willima1@gvsu.edu.

Note:  Please show up 15 minutes prior to the designated audition time block for your instrument. You will need to fill out an audition form.  After submitting your form, you will be assigned a number and will then audition in numerical order behind a screen for the audition committee.

Please visit our Ensemble Audition Information page for more information.

We conduct scholarship auditions at Michigan Thespians Festival and our annual Theatre Day

The Grand Valley Shakespeare Festival is Michigan's oldest and largest Shakespeare Festival, having operated annually since 1993. More than 6,000 patrons attend our Festival activities each season, which include mainstage performances of the Bard's works, high school touring shows, workshops, new plays projects, symposia with visiting scholars, an all-campus student art competition, a Renaissance Festival, and other events.

For more information, head over to the GVSF website at gvsu.edu/shakes.

ReACT! Anti-Violence Peer Education Group: ReACT! performs live scenes and uses interactive theatre methods, with GVSU student actors on the GVSU campus, which aim to help prevent incidents of dating and domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking in a college-age population.  Audience members explore how they can engage in realistic, safe, and effective methods of preventing violence.  ReACT! is the product of a partnership between GVSU’s Women’s Center and the Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance, and is funded by the Office of Violence Against Women, U.S. Department of Justice. Since the group's premiere in 2010, ReACT!'s professional peer theatre educators have performed for thousands of college students and social service providers across the state of Michigan. Please contact Dr. Alli Metz about the process of becoming a ReACT! student actor.

In addition to our department's theatre season, there are always student-run projects on campus looking for actors, directors, writers, and theatre technicians. Please check back here often for new opportunities.
