SUBMIT AN ABSTRACT

Midwest Interprofessional Practice, Education and Research Center (MIPERC) invites submission of abstracts for poster and/or podium presentations for its upcoming 12th annual Interprofessional Education Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan. MIPERC is an inter-institutional infrastructure dedicated to integrating interprofessional practice with education in the Midwest region.

Conference Objectives:

Upon completion of the conference participants will be able to:

1. Discuss the impact, clinical benefits, and costs of IPCP environments.
2. Discuss models and approaches for embedding IPCP and IPE initiatives into practice settings involving academic-service partnerships.
3. Describe what lessons have been learned by faculty and healthcare administrators as they have collaborated to establish IPCP environments involving health profession students and professional healthcare staff.
4. Describe the preparation needed to assist organizations as they consider establishing IPCP environments, including leveraging and navigating power structures, relationship building, and transformation of interactional barriers.
5. Cite successes for mutually beneficial, enduring academic-community agency alliances, which extend beyond student placements.

 

Who should submit an abstract?

Healthcare professionals, administrators, students, researchers, educators and policy makers who have an interest in advancing interprofessional practice, education and research.

Selection Process

The conference engages in a competitive abstract submission and selection process designed to showcase innovative work relevant to the conference theme and objectives. The categories of submission are reflective of MIPERC’s six champion workgroups:

• Clinical Setting and Administrative Initiatives
• Professional Development
• Curriculum/Education
• Scholarship/Research/Policy
• Service Learning
• Simulation

 

Guidelines for Abstract Submission

The procedures outlined below apply to both podium and poster presentations.

All abstracts must be submitted online via the link provided in this notice. The process provides an online form for basic abstract/author information. The content of the abstract should be uploaded to our system as a Word document.  

Note: The submission form has been set up so it can be completed by someone other than the primary author (i.e., secondary author, administrative assistant) if necessary.  If the primary author is completing the form please include your names both as the individual completing the form and as a primary author.
 
Please have the following information ready or determined before starting the submission process:

All author(s) information including name, e-mail, credentials, and organization affiliations of each author; type of presentation (podium or poster); and category.

Abstract content/sections:  Include abstract title and primary author. The abstract must be organized according to the following section headings:

• Purpose of presentation
• 1-2 objectives for the presentation
• Background/significance
• Methodology
• Results
• Conclusion

 

NOTE: Each of section of the abstract should be clearly identified.

Abstract Preparation:  Abstracts should be submitted in a Word document and should not exceed 350 words. Margins must be at least a 3/4 inch on left, right, top and bottom. The title should be centered in uppercase, and the body of the abstract should be single spaced using 11 point Times New Roman font. The abstract should fit on one side of one page using the margins defined.

Date:  The initial deadline for abstracts was June 30, 2019. Authors will receive notification of decisions by July 15, 2019. The Conference has extended the deadline beyond June 30 and until we reach room capacity for poster abstracts only. Abstracts that do not adhere to the guidelines may not be reviewed. All presenters must be registrants of the conference in order to participate.  (Students from all universities may attend at no cost.)

 

(Each group/individual selected for a podium presentation will be asked to give a 20 minute presentation and participate in an 8-10 minute Q & A.)
