INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY 101 - Demystifying Patents, Trademarks, Trade Secrets, and Copyrights

What is the difference between patents, trademarks and copyrights? What type of technology is patentable? When can I use the '®' symbol?  What does "patent pending" actually mean?

These questions, and many more, will be answered in this presentation geared toward inventors, entrepreneurs and creators. We will provide a high-altitude review of Intellectual Property law as it relates to:

  • Patents
  • Trademarks
  • Trade Secrets
  • Copyrights

with the aim to provide you with a basic understanding of what IP is, how IP works, and how to apply IP to your business strategy and branding. Ample time for Q&A will follow.

Presented by Erin Klug, Patent & Trademark Attorney

Erin Klug is a registered Patent Attorney practicing exclusively in the field of intellectual property law.  She focuses her practice on domestic and international intellectual property strategy and development, covering patent procurement, trademarks, copyrights, licensing and IP litigation. Erin represents a wide range of clients including automotive suppliers, medical device companies, consumer product developers and tech startups and solo entrepreneurs.  Erin earned her J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in Cleveland, OH and her B.S. of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan.
