Research Projects

MAREC directs and participates in research projects with other organizations and commercial sponsors.  Its collaborative approach is to bring proper expertise together to solve complex issues impeding renewable and alternative energy implementations.  Research partners in addition to GVSU faculty include other major research universities such as University of Michigan and Michigan State University.

In reaching out to the international community, MAREC also recently signed a collaborative agreement with Spain’s national renewable energy center (CENER).  We look forward to expanding and growing with these and other researchers interested in renewable and alternative energy solutions.

Major Current Projects:

Lake Michigan Offshore Wind Assessment

Smart Grid Solutions involving Alternative Energy Storage

Development of electric vehicle (EV) charging station infrastructure in Muskegon region

Past Projects:

Development of on-line Energy Monitor for Renewable Generation data

Establishment of large scale Dairy Biogas Plant

Pending Project:

In addition to larger projects, MAREC collaborates with interests in the local community and region on energy related projects.
