SPSS Access and Download Instructions

When to Use?

This article can guide you to the remote and/or download instructions for using SPSS at GVSU. 

Procedure

Access SPSS Remotely - No Installation Required

SPSS can be accessed via GVSU's Windows Virtual Computer Lab environment (Winlab): www.gvsu.edu/it/computer-lab-access-268.htm.

Sign into Winlab, open the Lab Applications folder, navigate to C:\Users\Public\Desktop\Lab Applications\STATISTICS, and run your preferred version of SPSS.

SPSS Download Instructions

Grand Valley State University has a site license for SPSS. You may download and install SPSS for Windows or Macintosh onto your personal computer for academic use. The following versions are available for download: 27 and 29. Note that Macintosh Big Sur requires version 27.

After you have downloaded the software you will need to authorize the software on your computer. To authorize the software, please visit the IT Service Portal: services.gvsu.edu/TDClient/60/Portal/Requests/ServiceDet?ID=765. Click the button Self-Service: Get SPSS License Code and an email will be sent to you with instructions and that code.

NOTE: The authorization code will only work on one machine. If you need authorization to run SPSS on multiple machines, please call IT Services for more information (616-331-2101).

Get SPSS Software - On Campus Procedure

The software can be downloaded to a flash drive from a campus computer lab. It will require a flash drive with a 1 GB minimum capacity. You can access the software using following procedure.

  1. Log into the computer
  2. Insert your flash drive
  3. Click on the Computer desktop shortcut
  4. Double click on GVSU‐LABDATA
  5. Open the STUDENT SOFTWARE folder
  6. Open the SPSS folder for the version of SPSS you require (27 and 29). Note that MacOS Big Sur and beyond require version 27.
  7. Inside the folder, you will see folders for Macintosh and Windows. Select the appropriate folder for your device.
  8. Right click on the file and select Send To from the drop down menu
  9. Save the file to your flash drive

Get SPSS Software - Off Campus Procedure

From off campus, using a high‐speed Internet connection, you may login to the campus network to download the software. The following table lists the steps for Students and Faculty staff to access the folder. The file save procedure may differ depending on which browser you are using.

Log in with your full GVSU email address

Once installation has completed you will be prompted to enter your license key. To obtain a license key visit services.gvsu.edu/TDClient/60/Portal/Requests/ServiceDet?ID=765, select "Self-Service: Get SPSS License Code", sign in with your GVSU credentials, select the version of SPSS you've installed, and click "Request". A code will be delivered to your GVSU email address.
