Lunch & Learn: The Influence of Light and Shadow in Islamic Architecture
Date and Time
Tuesday, June 19, 2018 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Description
Join us in Cook Auditorium for a Lunch and Learn discussion focusing on the influence of light and shadow in Islamic architecture. The architecture of a building – the enclosed space – is shaped, expressed, and understood by light and it is light which gives architecture its magical influence.
In the regions where artists Anila Quayyum Agha and Monir Farmanfarmaian drew the inspiration for their works, bas-relief, deep cut openings, sharp forms, and patterns reign supreme and shape sunlight through its power of absorption, shadow, and and reflection to dazzle.
Join us to explore the historic architecture of these regions and how they compare to contemporary architectural design. RSVP for this event is encouraged, but not required. This event is BYOB (bring your own lunch) and free to the public and GRAM members.
