Alisha Cleland and Emma Jack - 2012/2013

The Hospitality & Tourism Management Club (in conjunction with the HTM Department) is pleased to provide this scholarship, to a registered club member who has demonstrated an active interest in the club’s success and development.  The scholarship is to be used to help defray some of the costs associated with being a higher education student in the field of Hospitality & Tourism Management.

Recipients for this scholarship are currently enrolled full-time at GVSU, with junior or senior status, have a declared major in Hospitality and Tourism Management, and are  making satisfactory academic progress according to the norms established by the University.

Recipients are “active” members of the Hospitality and Tourism Management Club (Active members are those who demonstrate their commitment by regular attendance at meetings, activities/events, promotion of membership and other activities deemed appropriate by the committee.)

"Hi!  I’m Alisha Cleland and I am a recent graduate of Grand Valley’s HTM Department with an emphasis in event management. I have completed two internships at Hawk Hollow and Eagle Eye Golf Courses and Banquet Facilities in East Lansing where I have worked my way up to becoming first a manager of events, and then a banquet sales associate.  I am in the process of completing my final internship at this property and hopefully will be full-time with this company come fall.

During this past school year, I was the Vice President of the HTM Club and was able to participate and coordinate many activities and gatherings.  By taking part in all of the opportunities that were presented to the students in the HTM Department, and even more, who were involved in Club, I was able to learn more about the industry than just what I was hearing in my classes.  I was also Vice President of the Professional Convention Management Association Grand Valley Chapter and took part in their annual conference in Orlando in January.

Through my in-depth involvement with the Hospitality and Tourism Management Club, I learned about the HTM Club Scholarship.  I am grateful to have received this award because it is really the Club and experiences that have helped me.  It is extremely flattering to be recognized for all of the work and dedication that I have put into the Club this last year. The HTM Club Scholarship will help me in paying my student loans that will soon be coming after graduation."

" To be awarded the HTM Club Scholarship was such an honor, and I am extremely grateful for this recognition.  Grand Valley State University's Hospitality and Tourism Management Department was like a family to me.  I held the position of HTM Club President and made friends, peers, and wonderful connections with faculty, students, and professionals in the industry.  Although I have recently graduated, I know that I will remain in contact with so many of the people that have assisted me in bettering my career and life while at Grand Valley.  I have made so many memories, and I know that my GV education will lead me to success as I travel the country working different music festivals from Bonnaroo in Tennessee to Electric Forest in Michigan."
